The variety Bigarreau Burlat makes an upright, deciduous tree with ovate to oblong, toothed, dark green leaves turning orange and red in autumn and nodding, white flowers in mid-spring followed by glossy, spherical, edible, dark red fruit that are often the first cherries of the year, when the harvest usually takes place from the second fortnight of May.
