Description

Regarded as one of the best single perry varieties with medium acidity and medium tannin; it gives a ‘lemony’ fragrance to perry juices although is often blended with other varieties. Thought to be a cross between Red Longdon and Thorn perry pears, it is a vigorous, sturdy, reliable and a heavy cropper; and is named after the village of Blakeney in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. The fruit was used to dye soldiers’ khaki uniforms. Just edible fresh, and pleasant when cooked. This self-sterile Pear is believed to have originated from Gloucestershire, UK before 1600
