The Anemone genus includes about 120 species of flowering plants in the family Ranunculaceae (same one as buttercups!), which are native to temperate zones mainly from the Northern Hemisphere. Also called 'windflower', a name that is derived from the Greek word anemoi (or 'wind' in English), most are hardy or at least half-hardy. However, the Anemone is a broad family with differing needs (aren't they all!), so check the planting requirements before you buy! Anemone nemorosa are also called 'Wood Anemone', so there's a clue as to the conditions they prefer. The blanda types (and that epithet 'blanda' means 'mild' or 'charming' btw), which are spring flowering require well-drained lighter soils in a good sunny spot.
