A tuberous perennial from dry slopes and rocky areas in the south Europe to North Africa regions. Grow for its solitary fragrant iris-like flowers in springtime, Hermodactylus is fully hardy and will thrive in moderately fertile well-drained soil in full sun, and is suitable for naturalising in grassland, as well as rowing in a container, or at the foot of a well-drained, sunny wall.
