From south-estern Europe to north-western Turkey - these hardy bulbous perennials will grow in any moderately fertile well-drained soil in full sun, or partial shade, even in a woodland garden. They have long strappy leaves which smell faintly of garlic, and the stout flower stems - which can be up to 50cms - bear heads of 30 or so bell-shaped flowers in the summer time.
