'Widow Iris'. Widow Iris. A unique plant which people either love or hate. It has thin, blue-green leaves and in early spring the single, green and black flowers appear. The flowers are very similar to Iris in shape. The upright, inner petals are pale green while the flatter, outer petals are black or dark purple. Not 100% hardy but we find it does fine in a sunny, sheltered site. Does benefit from a thick winter mulch and from being left undisturbed. It is quite common for it to take a couple of years to come into flower. Height 15cm (6").
