Description

A widespread variety originating from Moorcroft Farm, in Colwall, and frequently known as `Malvern Hills’, that grows into a fine oak-like tree, and produces a perry that was described as having ‘excellent alcoholic strength, flavour and sweetness’ - it is valued by artisan perry-makers for a single-varietal perry, and is also used in the production of the delightful (and robust) ‘Stinking Bishop’ cheese made in Dymock, where it is dipped in Moorcroft Perry over a four month period of maturation. This self-sterile Pear is believed to have originated from Herefordshire, UK before 1886
