Nijisseiki or more correctly nijusseiki, (meaning 20th century), is a classic round, light-skinned pear. Seedling introduced in Japan in 1898, this mid-season variety revolutionised the pear industry, making a new standard of flavour, with its crisp, juicy flesh and very little grittiness.
