Description
The Scarlet Oak which grows up to 20m (70ft) is found in in the hills and mountains of North America on lime-free soils, but has been quite widely planted in parks and gardens. A key attraction to this deciduous tree is that the leaves which are about 15cms (6) in length and glossy and dark green in summer turn a bright red in Autumn about 5 to 6 weeks before falling. Acorns are small and round, and ripen in October.
