Spring wouldn't be spring without the brash exuberance of Forsythia blossom - admittedly not the most subtle of plants, but a well-pruned Forsythia in full glory really lifts the spirits on a cold March day. Originally from E. Asia, these are very tough shrubs, fully hardy and will thrive in any soil in sun or light shade. Prune after flowering - trim flowered stems back to a strong bud and cut some of the oldest wood back to the base.
