Some of the most striking late summer flowers come from this group. Admittedly they are not always the easiest plants to grow but they are well worth the effort, when you have a shrub covered in large saucer or trumpet shaped, brightly coloured flowers. They do need a sheltered spot, full sun and a very well drained soil. If you cannot provide this expect to be disappointed. The double flowered varieties require a much more sheltered spot, treat as half hardy. Also do not be surprised if there is little growth in the first year, this is normal.
