Description
Large, fast-growing tree with yellow catkins and spiny chestnut fruits.Grown in Yorkshire.
We grow a crop of approximately 2,000 nut trees each year in our fields here in the Vale of Pickering. For hazels, cobnuts and filberts we use the traditional method of propagating, using 'stool beds', permanent rows of plants where new shoots are twisted or cracked, and then this part of the stem buried back in the soil, where roots will form. The following winter these are then cut away from the mother plant and lined out in our fields to grow on, until they are finally ready for sale as bare root plants. All our nut trees are supplied as bare root trees during the winter months (between November and March). Trees are lifted to order, sent out within 24 hours of being lifted, and packed with extreme care so they arrive with you in perfect condition ready for planting. Please be aware that there may be a delay in sending your plants to you. At the start of lifting in November we will already have a long queue of customers waiting for their trees which have been pre-ordered over the summer months. We will always do our best to fit in with your timing schedule, but at busy periods in the year this may not always be possible. We endeavour to send out trees at a time which is good for planting.
Please see the ‘Delivery’ tab for more information on methods of delivery, or how to arrange collection from the nursery.
Fruit Tree sizes:
We offer a wide range of sizes and shapes, ranging from one year old trees up to 5 year old standard trees. We are one of the very few nurseries who still offer standard trees on a vigorous rootstock for producing a traditional orchard, and the range of trained trees we grow - fans, espaliers, cordons and step-overs - is second to none. All grown here in Yorkshire and trained by our professional nursery staff. For help on choosing the size and shape of your fruit tree, see A Guide to Fruit Tree Sizes - RV Roger Ltd
