Damson
Fan-trained damson trees, grown in Yorkshire.
Damson trees are tough and hardy, so make a great choice for a trained tree if you have a particularly cold or exposed wall which you would like to be productive. They will tolerate quite a lot of shade too. We are one of the few nurseries in the UK who field-train fruit trees - young trees are carefully pruned each spring to encourage branch formation, and then in mid-summer the growth is again pruned to shape and tied to frames. Our expert nurserymen have many years of experience in pruning and training, and we believe the trained trees we grow are second to none. All fan-trained trees are available to buy as bare root trees during the winter months.
Whilst only apple and pears can be grown as espaliers, just about any top fruit can be grown as a fan - so plums, cherries, damsons, gages, peaches and apricots, as well as apples and pears. The normal size we offer is described as a traditional fan with 5-7 shoots - so the branches radiate out from a central stem, and if you were to count all the tips of the branches there would be between 5 and 7. They are generally 3 year old trees, and a perfect size for transplanting.
Demand is always high for trained trees, and availability is constantly changing. If you can't find what you are looking for, please email us at sales@rvroger.co.uk and we'll be delighted to help.
The delivery charge for any order containing a trained tree is £40.00. Each parcel is packed by hand so your trees arrive in perfect condition, and each parcel can take 30 mins to pack. In addition, the parcels are large and bulky, and we need to use a specialist courier to deliver them. You are very welcome to arrange collection of your order from the nursery if you want to avoid delivery charges.
