Description

Very similar in shape and habit to A. pal. dissectum but this time the leaves are a stunning dark purple through out the growing season, becoming brilliant red in the autumn. Height 1m (3ft).

Sizes:

The height (if shown) is from soil level to the top of the plant.

RB = rootballed. The roots and a ball of soil will be enclosed by a hessian wrap. Leave the hessian in place when planting - it will naturally decompose in the ground over the course of the first season, and the roots will soon be able to find their way out and get established. Some shrubs are supplied with rootballs rather than bare root because they particularly resent root disturbance - either because they are evergreen and so are never fully dormant, or else because they have a delicate root system.

BR = bare root. Most of our shrubs are supplied as bare root plants. Field-grown and then lifted fresh from our nursery during the winter months. It is the traditional method of growing and planting shrubs and trees, and generally ensures a better root system than a container-grown plant.

C3, C5, etc = Container-grown. The C stands for 'Container' and the number afterwards is the pot size (measured in litres). So C3 would be a plant in a 3 litre pot, C5 in a 5 litre pot, etc. Although a lot of our plants are field-grown, we do offer some as container-grown, normally because they are not so suited to the heavy clay of our fields.

Unpacking and Planting Advice:

Bare root and rootballed shrubs and trees do need some care and attention on arrival. Please unpack your parcel within 3 days of its arrival.

Rootballed and container-grown shrubs can simply be placed outside in sheltered spot (near a wall or fence is ideal) until you are ready to plant. If the weather is particularly cold, frosty or windy it would be best to store in a light, frost-free environment until the worst of the weather has passed (e.g. unheated greenhouse or polytunnel).
Bare root plants should be planted or temporarily heeled in as soon as possible afer arrival. For further information please see our Knowledge Centre - Care on Arrival - RV Roger Ltd
