Grown in Yorkshire.

We grow a crop of approximately 25,000 fruit trees each year in our fields here in the Vale of Pickering. Rootstocks are planted in March, trees are budded in August (or grafted the following February/March) and then the plants are grown on, carefully weeded and pruned, until they are finally ready for sale as bare root plants. All our top fruit trees are supplied as bare root trees during the winter months (between November and March). Trees are lifted to order, sent out within 24 hours of being lifted, and packed with extreme care so they arrive with you in perfect condition ready for planting.

Please be aware that there may be a delay in sending your plants to you. At the start of lifting in November we will already have a long queue of customers waiting for their trees which have been pre-ordered over the summer months. We will always do our best to fit in with your timing schedule, but at busy periods in the year this may not always be possible. We endeavour to send out trees at a time which is good for planting.

Please see the ‘Delivery’ tab for more information on methods of delivery, or how to arrange collection from the nursery.

Rootstocks:

We use a wide range of fruit rootstocks, from very dwarfing through to vigorous stocks to create traditional orchard-sized trees. Semi-dwarfing rootstocks (e.g. M106 for apples) are our 'default' stock for producing a garden-sized tree, as more dwarfing rootstocks can be a problem when grown in cold or exposed sites. Choice of rootstock is probably the first thing that needs to be decided when buying a tree. It's generally not too difficult - regular pruning is more important for keeping trees under control and in the best health.

For a full explanation of all the rootstocks we use see A Guide to Fruit Rootstocks - RV Roger Ltd

Fruit Tree sizes:

We offer a wide range of sizes and shapes, ranging from one year old trees up to 5 year old standard trees. We are one of the very few nurseries who still offer standard trees on a vigorous rootstock for producing a traditional orchard, and the range of trained trees we grow - fans, espaliers, cordons and step-overs - is second to none. All grown here in Yorkshire and trained by our professional nursery staff.

UPDATE November 2024 - Order now for the new 2024/25 season. Despatch will start as from mid-November 2024.

All trees will be sent out between November 2024 and March 2025

Unfortunately delivery charges for larger trained fruit trees (espaliers, fans and cordons) has had to increase this season to £40.00 per order. The parcels (which we make bespoke for each order, and each one takes up to 45 minutes to make) are large and unwieldy, and few couriers will even attempt to deliver them. Our courier for larger parcels (DX Freight) will deliver next day, so your trees arrive in perfect condition. Delivery charges will be shown at checkout, before payment is taken.

If you prefer, you are very welcome to collect your order from the nursery to avoid paying delivery charges. At checkout, fill out the shipping address details with your own address, and then you can select "Arrange collection from the nursery". There will be no delivery charge, and we will be in touch to arrange a convenient time.

The delivery charge shown at checkout is for an order containing only plants or bulbs from a single despatch period. If your order contains plants from several despatch periods (e.g. bulbs and fruit trees) we will be in touch to discuss despatch options - we can either send out as soon as each part is ready (at an additional charge) or wait and send when everything is available.

We work on 'first come, first served' basis - at busy times in the winter months despatch may be delayed.

Orders will be sent out by our trusted couriers (APC or DX Freight). This is normally a 24 hour service and you will receive an email with full tracking information once your parcel leaves us

Delivery charges are calculated at checkout.

Collection from the nursery is possible - please select this option at checkout and we will be in touch to arrange.
N.B. In busy periods it may take a couple of weeks to get your order ready for collection. We'll be in touch as soon as we can to agree a convenient date.

Due to plant health regulations, we cannot send plant material or bulbs to the EU.
