Fothergilla major

Description

An unusual yet surprisingly easy shrub to grow. In April bears white, bottle-brush flowers, generally before the foliage has developed. The leaves are large and very similar to hazel. In autumn they really come into their own with a superb display of yellow and reds. Not suitable for growing on lime or chalk soils, otherwise these are unfussy plants. Requires no pruning as such and is happy in full sun or part shade.
