The 'Hupe' or 'Chinese' crab is a vigorous medium-sized tree from western China, growing to 10m in height, and with a broad crown of dark ovate leaves. The flower buds are pink opening to white fragrant flowers, and are followed by bright red cherry-sized fruit in the autumn. Also know as the 'Tea' crab - the leaves were sometimes used to make a tea or tisane.
