Description
The London Plane is a popular tree for city streets, being tolerant of polluted air. It is a vigorous broadly columnar tree that grows anywhere up to 30m (100ft), but adapts to pollarding well. Characteristics of this tree include the flaking bark with patterns of cream, grey and brown patches, and the curious spiky ball-shaped fruit which are borne in clusters or 3 or 4, and can hang on the tree until well through autumn and winter.
