First recorded in 1874, this was named in honour of the Russian Emperor who was visiting the UK that year. Compact growth so suitable for the smaller garden. It flowers early, but is fairly frost-resistant, and is a reliable cropper with large purple fruits are tender with a pleasant slightly acidic flavour.
