<p>A small group of deciduous trees, which are actually members of the pea family - best known for producing the long racemes of bright yellow flowers through late spring. Native to Central and Eastern Europe, they are easy to grow in all soils except for very wet sites, and the flowering display is a spectacle to behold, whether planted <em>en masse </em>to form an arch or dotted amoungst light woodland.</p>
<p>The hybrid <em>Laburnum x waterii</em> 'Vossii' is the most widely known as it produces the largest flowers, but the Scotch laburnum, <em>Laburnum alpinum</em> is a most delightful tree (although the common name is slightly misleading, as it originates from the Alpine and Balkan areas of Europe.)</p>

<p>Giving specific height sizes for trees is a little like asking how long a peice of string is. Soil type, aspect and geographical location, as well as care and feeding, can make a huge difference to the ultimate height a tree can attain. As an example, we always find that the heights specified by the RHS (based in the south of the UK) are about 25% taller than we would expect the same tree to reach in Yorkshire. Instead we prefer to use the relative terms of 'small', 'medium' and 'large', to help you narrow down your choice.
