Betula pubescens 'Armenian Gold'

Description

This cultivar of the 'Downy birch' is from central Europe, and is of moderately upright growth to 12m with yellow-green foliage. The twigs are 'woolly' and the white bark extends almost to the base of the trunk. As with most birch trees, it flourishes in moist or even swampy acidic soil, but is sensitive to compaction. The sap has at times been used in the cosmetics industry for hair care.
