Hacksaw Fern or Prickly Rasp Fern. A half-hardy evergreen fern from Eastern Australia, named after Samuel Doody (1656 - 1706), curator of the Chelsea Physic Garden. Found in its native habitat growing in rainforest margins and eucalypt forests, this will need some care in all but the most sheltered spots. Well worth the effort, as the new fronds are a bright pinky red, gradually maturing to dark green.
