Evergreen hedging plants
Evergreen hedging contains some of the very best species - from English box for edging borders and parterres, to the classic Yew which is undoubtedly the finest evergreen hedge plant. This section also includes those perennial favourites of Cherry Laurel and Privet (good for poor soils, or if you need a fast-growing screen).
Whilst there are some situations where only an evergreen hedge will do, they are not without their drawbacks, the main one is generally cost. A yew hedge can be a sizeable investment, and although it is a thing of beauty which should last for 200 years or more, don't discount other hedging - both beech and hornbeam will keep their leaves through the winter months and provide structure and screening, but even a mixed deciduous hedge will provide some privacy through the winter.
Plant size:
Once you have selected the plant you are interested in, you will see that we offer several sizes - and give not only the height of the plant but also the age. Those marked "1/1" are two year old plants, and for some varieties we are able to offer older three year old plants -marked "1/2". You may be able to find plants offered for sale online which are the same height, but they can just be 1 year old plants which have been raised from seed. Our plants are grown on to ensure they have an excellent root system, so they establish quickly and give your hedge the best possible start. You may be able to buy cheaper, but we don't think you can buy better!
