Description

An unusual dual-purpose variety, originating from the town of Hornsea on the coast of the East Riding of Yorkshire (and hence - it is likely to be very hardy)! This tree bears quite large fruit which have a very firm flesh that cook to an aromatic puree with some bite and a lovely acid-drops flavour. A story so goes, that it was once a condition of the town, that residents should plant a Hornsea Herring apple tree in order to be allowed to live there. This self-sterile culinary Apple is believed to have originated from Yorkshire, UK in 1780
