Description

Known and loved world-wide, it was raised about 1780 in Normandy, France by M Longueval, and named after Mme Longueval by the Abbe Berryais. (Although other sources say that the English name arose because it arrived via the Channel Islands). Quite a vigorous tree, that produces wonderful small fruit which are sweet, juicy and with a flavour to rival Doyenne de Comice. Very heavy crops, can require thinning, and an excellent garden variety. Known to produce some parthenocarpic fruit. This partially self-fertile dessert Pear is believed to have originated from Normandy, France in about 1780
