'Yaku-jima' is a compact, clump-forming, deciduous perennial grass with upright to slightly arching and broadly linear, mid-to-blue-green leaves. From late summer and early autumn, feathery panicles of pink-flushed, creamy-silver flowers are held well above the foliage and the leaves turn reddish-brown in autumn, fading to pale brown by winter.
