Description
As its synonym de Coulis this pear has been known since the early 1600s - but records are understandably variable from that period, and was introduced to the UK in 1696 by the Brompton Park Nursery, London. The fruit was extensively grown in France in the 19th century and used for jam making (raisiné) when this variety was claimed to give the jam its distinctive flavour. Best eaten fresh when the fruit is firm with a pleasant sweetness. For help with choosing the correct rootstock for your needs, please click here A Guide to Rootstocks
