White-fleshed, crunchy with an astringent taste; a cooking pear; flesh turns pink when cooked; a very vigorous, healthy tree which crops well; originated in Holland, and is one of the best known culinary pears there, it is a very hard pear, and was nicknamed "the cannonball" in Antwerp.
