Tulipa 'Striped Crown'

£1.05
Highly unusual tulip, both in form and colour. One of the new 'Coronet' group of tulips, with the characteristic ruffled and curved petals which are said to resemble a crown. What sets this one apart is the colour - or rather the variations of colours, with each flower being a unique mix of pale creamy yellow and raspberry red in stripes and streaks. Some flowers are almost pure cream, others almost all red, and the shades change and darken as the flower matures. Reminiscent of the famous (and extremely expensive) 'Broken' tulips of the 1700's, but rather than the colour form being caused by virus, this is the result of very careful selective breeding. Stunning!
