Division 16 - Coronet Tulips
A new division, introduced in 2018, for a group of tulip varieties all characterised by their unusual shape - the petals are ruffled and curved inwards, so the whole effect is reminiscent of a crown or coronet.
The first tulip with this shape was actually found in 1949, a variety no longer in cultivation called 'Picture'. It wasnt until the 1990's that other tulips with a similar shape came along, and breeding in the past 30 years have yielded some superb varieties, which no longer fitted within the traditional 'Triumph Tulip' division. All are extremely good garden bulbs, and work well both in the border or grown in pots.
