Description
Ulmus glabra - Hedging
£0.00 - £4.50
The only true British native elm species, once widespread across all of the British Isles and Scotland in particular, but now a much rarer site. Requires a deep, rich soil to prosper, but will grow in sun or shade. Although can be grown as a large, free-standing tree up to 30m tall, it also makes a great hedgerow shrub, with large, oval leaves which are 'toothed' around the edges. Small clusters of flowers appear before the leaves in early spring, followed by curious 'winged' fruit in early summer, with a single seed at the centre.
