Description
Arose in about 1770 for cider pomace which was thrown under the hedge of a blacksmith's in Uckfield, Sussex. In 1847 his grandson, John Mannington, sent the fruit to the London Horticultural Society. Rich, aromatic, slightly nutty in flavour, this was highly prized by the Victorians.
