Bred by nurseryman Joseph Kirke of Brompton Road, London in the early 1800s, this medium-large purple blue free-stone plum has an unsurpassed reputation for flavour, although needs a sunny, sheltered site to crop at its best. It is a self-sterile variety, so needs a pollinator. The tree is typically compact and spreading, making it an ideal garden choice. This self-sterile Plum is believed to have originated from London, UK in 1830
