Description
The White mulberry (Morus alba), is native to China, and in the 19th C it was brought to the West with the intention to create a silk industry that was not yet established, but the idea failed when it was found that the white mulberry did not thrive in the conditions of the Little Ice Age. White Mulberry will not give such quality fruits as the Black Mulberry, however, they have yellowish (non-staining) white fruits in mid August, that are reputed to taste best when slightly overripe, when they have a mild honeyed watermelon flavour. For help with choosing the correct rootstock for your needs, please click here A Guide to Rootstocks
