Description

One of the first pears to ripen each season, producing good crops of medium-sized yellow-green fruit flushed with red. The flesh is pale yellow and very juicy sugary and with plenty of lemony acidity. The tree’s growth is moderate with a slightly drooping nature. Raised in Massachusetts, USA in 1860 by Thaddeus Clapp. Timing picking is crucial as the fruit is inclined to ‘go sleepy’ (rot) from the core.
