Catalpa bignonioides Whip 100-125cm (W)

A deciduous tree from riversides and woodland of East Asia, it is most often grown for its handsome heart-shaped foliage and large bell-shaped flowers. Best grown as a specimen tree where its spreading habit can be seen to full advantage. The unusual bean-pod like seeds which appear in bunches in autumn persist on the tree until the following spring when they open to release the papery seeds.
