Description

One of the oldest varieties still grown, and presumed French in origin, this was first listed by the Brompton Park nursery in London in 1696. Grown in a sunny spot for the sugars to form fully, this variety can produce outstandingly well flavoured fruit - intense, rich, sweet-sharp and with a hint of acid drops, especially in areas where the season is long, and conditions mild. Highly prized throughout the C18th and C19th, this was often grown in pots and used as a decorative feature in parterres, as the fruit hangs on the tree for a long time. This self-sterile dessert Apple is believed to have originated from France in 1696
