Description
The Cockspur Thorn is so named because of its large and highly decorative thorns which may grow up to 15cms (6) when the tree is mature. This is spreading tree which grows to 8m (30ft) high has the characteristic corymbs of white flowers and bunches of dark red fruit that are common to other members of the Hawthorn family. A native of North America and introduced into the UK in 1691, this makes a beautiful tree - good spring blossom, bright red autumn foliage and berries which persist on the tree for much of winter.
